More About 2.5D MMORPG
A long time ago, at the middle of the 90s, players were extremely interested in videogames, and technological progress of the computer development made several significant breakthroughs, such as 3D graphics and servers for multiplayer games. At the same time, the most advanced PCs were extremely rare and expensive, and only a few gamers were able to afford it. This situation forced developers to create videogames with 3D-like graphics and low system requirements. The 2.5D MMORPG projects were the best decision to choose: these games had the most vivid graphics, unusual fresh angles of view, and unique graphic styles.
The first and most common style of pseudo-3D videogames is isometric one. These graphics usually combined with pixel style or 3D models with plane backgrounds in more recent projects. It is the most advanced and detailed stylistic, which easily can be mixed up with real three-dimensional graphics. The effect of pseudo-realistic three-dimensional style is created with a specific angle of view and specifically drawn sprites. Another type is the top-down perspective, which looks almost as the usual 2D picture, but with a small additional dimension, which helps to show the features of the environment and character designs. Some side-scroller videogames also use the effect of pseudo-deepness in their graphics on the background. All of these kinds of games can use both 2D sprites and 3D models, combining them with classic 2.5D MMORPG features.
