Arcania: Gothic 4 Description

Arcania: Gothic 4 is a spin-off of the original CRPG series, which takes place ten years after the events of Gothic 3. The game was developed by Spellbound Entertainment and published by JoWooD. The release took place in October 2010.

New developers decided to change the central character. This time, the player will have to appear in the role of a shepherd, whose measured life changes dramatically in the light of recent events. When the main character is about to acquire a wife and offspring, their island is attacked. Having miraculously survived, he sets revenge as his primary goal. Unusual is the fact that the main character of the three previous parts, who has become the king, appears in the antagonist's role.

Arcania: Gothic 4 Gameplay

The basic gameplay has remained unchanged to the genre. The player also needs to travel the world, completing main and side quests, simultaneously improving the character's parameters and fighting various enemies. However, Arcania: Gothic 4 has undergone conceptual changes. If the Gothic series's last parts were explicit RPGs, then Arcania also biases towards imitating the MMORPG gameplay.

System of skills and characteristics

One of the mechanics that have been reworked is the skill development and improvement system. The developers of Arcania: Gothic 4 have simplified it. Now the improvement of the parameters of the main character occurs with a mandatory level increase.

Skills are acquired by improving certain branches of characteristics.

Combat system

The developers have rethought the combat system, making it more dynamic, taking as a basis the combat system of Gothic 3. If the accent was previously focused on finding tactics and strategy for a specific type of monsters, now the player must mostly attack, counterattack, parry, and dodge.

In terms of the variety of enemies, in Arcania: Gothic 4, both old types of creatures were rethought, and new ones were introduced.

Grind plays a vital role in the gameplay, since the player will often encounter enemies in large numbers, and the skill system requires a large number of skill points.

Visual component

Arcania: Gothic 4 has nice updated graphics, as well as a sustained medieval-fantasy setting. The game has paid attention to detail. Locations are designed and filled with local flora and fauna, and various structures are qualitatively detailed. Good work has been done on shaders and lighting.

One of the exciting features is the animations activated in the menu called "RPG mode" and with objects.

Storyline and side quests

Arcania: Gothic 4, although it is a spin-off, but tells about the further development of events after the denouement of Gothic 3. Already on behalf of another protagonist, the player will learn how the Kingdom of Myrtana was transformed under the reign of the previous parts' central character. It is pleasant that this game allows meeting key characters of the earlier parts of the series, such as Diego, Robar, Horn and others. The narration is measured, but at the same time, complete. In addition to exciting events in the main storyline, the player can also learn interesting details about the game universe and its latest news.

Most quests are made according to the principle of classic MMORPG tasks - killing a certain number of mobs, delivering an item from point A to point B, etc.
