Assassin’s Creed Rogue is an action-adventure title that explores the age-old struggle between the Assassins and the Templars from a fresh perspective. Developed by Ubisoft Sofia and published by Ubisoft, this game stands out in the Assassin’s Creed series for its unique protagonist and the narrative path it traverses.

Diving into the Story and Gameplay

Assassin’s Creed Rogue spins a compelling tale set within a meticulously recreated 18th century during the Seven Years’ War. This time, players take on the role of Shay Patrick Cormac, a recruit of the Assassin Brotherhood whose journey takes a dramatic turn, leading him to question his allegiances and ultimately, his very identity.

Cormac’s story commences in the North Atlantic, where he undergoes rigorous training to hone his skills. The narrative takes a tumultuous turn with the news of an earthquake decimating Port-au-Prince, a consequence of the quest for a Precursor temple that houses a Piece of Eden. From this point on, the players, in the role of Cormac, navigate the unraveling narrative, taking the helm of the ship Morrigan and exploring the vast open world presented in the game.

Naval mechanics play a significant role in Assassin’s Creed Rogue, building upon the foundations laid by its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. The Morrigan can navigate both open seas and narrow rivers, allowing for varied exploration and combat scenarios. The ship is equipped with several features such as puckle guns and the ability to release an ignitable oil slick. The arctic environment introduces additional gameplay mechanics, as ramming icebergs with the Morrigan’s icebreaker becomes a viable strategy. However, players must be wary of the chilling waters of the North Atlantic, as swimming for too long drains Cormac’s health rapidly.

The combat system in Assassin’s Creed Rogue incorporates both melee and ranged attacks, providing diverse and dynamic confrontations. The inclusion of an air rifle adds a silent ranged element, which can also be adapted into a grenade launcher for more destructive results. Hand-to-hand combat continues to be a prominent feature, with precise timing and countering playing an essential role in these engagements.

Enemy Assassins employ a range of skills and combat styles, some reminiscent of Assassins from previous entries in the series. They pose a significant threat, capable of hiding in bushes, blending with crowds, and even executing air assassinations. To help deal with these threats, players can utilize poisoned gas as an environmental weapon and a gas mask to protect against its effects. Eagle Vision returns as a reliable tool for tracking enemies and identifying potential threats.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue introduces a new side mission, Assassin Interception. These missions task players with preventing an assassination attempt on innocent individuals targeted by hidden Assassins. Coupled with an array of side missions and activities, the game offers diverse gameplay experiences catering to different player preferences.
