Baldurs Gate 3 Gameplay

Baldur's Gate 3 is a sequel of the classic isometric fantasy RPG set in the Forgotten Realms universe. The game series is based on the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. At the moment the project is being developed by Larian Studios under their own publishing house.

The plot of Baldur's Gate 3 is separate from the second part. The story is tied around the illithid race — the octopus-like creatures endowed with supernatural powers. Illithids reproduce by introducing their larvae into the bodies of members of other races, using them as incubators. The protagonist is one of the captives of the illithids aboard the nautiloid. Its main task is to escape and get rid of the tadpole implanted in the brain. The peculiarity of this creature is that it slowly eats away at the owner's brain, but at the same time, it gives the character unique abilities like telepathy. Presumably, representatives of this race will become the main antagonists of Baldur's Gate 3, which the main character will have to overcome.

The gameplay of Baldur's Gate 3 is very similar to the latest Larian Studios project - Divinity: Original Sin II. In addition to external similarities, the player will also have to travel around the game world, get acquainted with the NPC, complete various quests, and organize heroes' squad.

Quest system and replayability

The detailed elaboration of quests distinguishes all the latest projects of Larian Studios. In addition to their vast number, a distinctive feature is their quality and lack of uniformity. Each mission tells a uniquely fascinating story, during which the player gets to know the universe and its events better and learns a lot about certain NPCs. It is also worth noting the variability of passage and non-linearity. So, some places can be traversed in different ways, avoiding potential battles, or using stealth.

Besides, the player will often be presented with a choice, which, in turn, will significantly influence other events.

These features add tremendous replay value to Baldur's Gate 3.

On the way, the player will face many enemies, ranging from ordinary people, and ending with dinosaurs, orcs and large trolls.

Customization in Baldurs Gate 3

At the beginning of the game, the player will be able to create a unique character using the proposed customizer. There will be as many as 15 races to choose.

Baldur's Gate 3 Customization
Each race has its characteristics and unique skills.

In addition to the vast possibilities for customizing the appearance, the player will be able to create a unique background and character for them. The developers also added the ability to choose one of the ready-made characters with a pre-written history and character.

Combat system

Baldur's Gate 3 tried to bring the combat system closer to the tabletop model. The battles here are entirely turn-based. Also, unlike Divinity: Original Sin II, moves in the game are alternately transferred between the sides of the fight, and not by individual participants. In battle, each player-controlled character can take a number of actions, ranging from standard attacks, defence, using a skill or consumable, and ending with interaction with the environment and other characters. So, the player has the opportunity to strengthen the weapon with the help of sources of fire or poison located on the battlefield, to push the enemy off a cliff, or to blow up flammable objects near the enemy. As in Divinity: Original Sin II, the player can use existing obstacles and create new barriers on the battlefield - for example, spill oil on the ground, on which enemies will slip. Literally, in every battle, the player will have the opportunity to use the environment's features to their advantage.

This system adds excellent variability in the gameplay, as well as ample opportunities for the tactical component.
