Cyberpunk 2077 reached more than one million players in Steam
Cyberpunk 2077 managed to stand out not only by the vast number of viewers on Twitch, preorders and sales but also the simultaneous number of Steam players. After the release, the project had more than 1 million users at the same time, which is a record among single-player games. The previous leader in this regard can be considered Fallout 4 with a population of 472,962 people at launch in 2015.
Of course, the number of users far exceeds one million people, because CD Projekt distributes the game through several other stores including GOG, Epic Games, GeForce Now and Stadia, as well as the consoles.
As for multiplayer games and records set in Steam, that place is still held by PUBG, which had 3,257,248 people present at the same time on January 13, 2018. But who knows, maybe Cyberpunk 2077 will beat this figure the moment multiplayer becomes available.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person view RPG with an open, seamless world in a sci-fi setting, created by the developers of the popular The Witcher series, CD Project Red, based on the universe of the famous board game Cyberpunk 2020 by Mike Pondsmith.
Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced in May 2012 and for a long time was one of the most anticipated games. The developers admitted that the announcement came out too early because they were still very focused on the development of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game was released on December 10, 2020, and is now available for purchase on PC (Steam, Epic Games, GoG), PlayStation 4, and Xbox.
