Dark Age of Camelot Gameplay

Dark Age of Camelot is one of the pioneers in the genre of RvR games. The players are divided into three warring factions, the realms of Albion, Midgard and Hibernia. Events of the plot are revolving in the medieval fantasy setting, ten years after the death of King Arthur; the player's goal differs depending on the chosen realm because each one has a unique storyline. However, each player has approximately the same range of activities. The main difference is in the style of the gameplay on the server: it can be Normal, with limited PvP; Cooperative, a strictly PvP server instead of RvR; and Test, where players can try out new abilities.

The most important and essential feature of the Dark Age of Camelot is RvR. It was developed in 2001, and it was one of the first games in this genre. The concept of this feature is that players are divided into three factions in controversy, and the PvP functions are unlimited for the members of different realms. Players of the same kingdom can unite in Guilds and Alliances; it opens access to group PvP, ranking system, personal territory, and various privileges.

The conception of DAoC is based on the controversy between three factions with unique stories and skills:

The Albion — a kingdom founded and raised by king Arthur. After his death, these thriving lands began to decay under the oppression of enemy raids. Still, this kingdom's strength is in the elemental magic, which powers the most influential mage guilds. The inhabitants of the Albion are Britons, Saracens, Avalonians, Inconnu, Highlanders and Half Ogres.

The Hibernia — an island inhabited by nature-worshipping Celts and fantastical Otherworld creatures: Lurikeens, Firbolgs, Elves, Sylvians, and Shar. These races use druidic spells and ancient elvish Arcane magic.

The Midgard — a northern kingdom ruled by powerful and brutal creatures. The leaders of these lands are Kobolds, Dwarves, Norsemen, Trolls, Valkyns, and Frostalfs. The Gods power the Norse magic; Odin, Thor and Hel support their children in combat.
