Defiance Gameplay

Defiance takes place in the San Francisco Area fifteen years after the devastating war between humans and aliens, known as Votanis Collective. They came to Earth seeking a new home after the destruction of their planet being unaware the planet is already inhabited. Initial conflicts between the newcomers and earthlings led to war, during which the alien terraforming technology was unleashed changing the surface of the world drastically. That led to massive extinction of plants, animal species and the appearance of new ones. The war was over, and two races learnt how to live together, and the players take roles of Ark Hunters who explore the world searching for various alien technologies.

Playable characters in Defiance are specialists at exploration, and they seek alien minerals, techs and complete diverse tasks for different factions. As one of them, at the beginning of the game, you receive an implant called EGO, which is alien nanotechnology. It provides the characters with extraordinary abilities and free access to multiple objects in the world to make the gameplay smoother. The players can customize the technology to change their skills and enhance various attributes to customize their playstyle and find a unique way of playing. You can choose one of three races, which are Humans, Irathients and Castithans. The difference is only their visual appearance; however, the game also features four classes with unique abilities and development paths, and you can choose between Outlaws, Veterans, Survivalists and Machinists.

Defiance is an online project, and it features multiple game modes to experience. Players can form a group with up to three other people to complete challenging missions in the open world. You can also participate in Arena tournaments, which support player-versus-player battles and hardcore survival challenges, where hordes of monsters attack the players continuously. However, to find the most powerful enemies you have to enter instances and clear up hordes of monsters before fighting the boss. Most of these activities generously reward the players for completion.

Shadow Wars is a PvP feature of Defiance. The players can sign up to become Shadow Operatives to battle other players in the open world or in specific areas to claim valuable prices. There are a few available modes, such as Team Elimination, Deathmatch and others. Most of the time winners get the in-game currency, which is Echelon Credits, to spend on special gear, weapons and armour. Some events also provide you with additional unique rewards and other time-limited features.

Defiance features the immersive storyline for the players to complete during their adventures. You are guided by a celebrity scientist to find a mysterious alien relic rumoured to be lost in the area. However, the gamers are not the only ones looking for it, and you may encounter various aliens and other species to fight to get the prize. The game also includes a wide range of side missions that reward the players with the in-game currency, experience points and valuable materials. Various challenges are also available to both casual and hardcore players to earn additional rewards. Sometimes, you can find Contracts to defeat an extraordinary creature to improve your reputation with a faction and receive various gear pieces and the in-game currency.
