Diablo Gameplay

Diablo is the classic Action / RPG dungeon crawler game that was one of the first video games in hack and slash genre. The project was developed by Blizzard North and published by Blizzard Entertainment and Ubisoft. The release took place in 1996.

Diablo is the founder of the isometric dark fantasy dungeon crawler genre. The player is invited, alone or with other players, to go to the dungeons of Tristram, flooded with various demonic creatures. Progressing through 16 levels of the dungeon, the player eventually ends up in Hell, where they will have to face the game's main boss Diablo.

The game takes place in a universe divided into the world of mortal people, the heavenly world and the burning Hell. After centuries of war between angels and demons, the three lords of Hell - Mephisto, Baal and Diablo - decided to achieve victory over the enemy by influencing the mortal world. This continued until the moment when a group of magicians imprisoned them in the "Soul Stones". One of these stones, with the prisoner Diablo, was buried deep in the catacombs underground. Later, people built a monastery over that place. Forgotten many years later, according to the plans of King Leoric, the foundation of the monastery was to be transformed into a cathedral. However, at that moment, the awakened Diablo begins to manipulate the minds of the king and his entourage, starting to sow chaos again.

During a series of strange events in Tristram, such as people disappearing in the middle of the night and demonic creatures' appearance in the catacombs, the main character arrives. They will have to deal with the oddities happening in the city.

The gameplay is an isometric RPG with lots of story and side quests and procedural generation of game dungeons in which the player will spend most of the time.

Skill and class mechanics

Before starting the game, the player can choose one of the available character classes.

Diablo Skill and class mechanics
Each of them differs in essential characteristics and skills.

Depending on your preferred playstyle, Diablo offers classes of different skill trees and fighting style.

Replayability of Diablo

Diablo devs introduced a mechanic that randomly generates a new version of the game every playthrough. Each new game will present the user with new items, types of monsters that the player can meet during the game session, sets of items, quests from the list of available missions, randomly generated dungeons and other procedurally generated objects.

Atmosphere of Diablo

One of the things we love about the Diablo series is its vibe. The game is designed in the style of dark fantasy in the smallest detail. Each location, decor and dungeon content convey the darkness of the gaming universe.

Diablo Atmosphere
For even more immersion into the atmosphere of the dark fantasy, the lighting is designed in a certain way which makes it look like a fog of war.

Because of this feature, combined with a random generation of the world, the player will never know what will be waiting for them at one corner or another. It is also worth noting that the first RPGs, including Diablo, were inspired by tabletop RPGs. In addition to the main character development systems from the GURPS and AD&D games, the project also migrated to the exterior design and the design of mobs and NPCs.

Combat system

Even though the canon for RPGs was a targeted combat system when faced with a single or small group of opponents, Diablo went differently and implemented a hack and slash system.

Diablo Combat system
The game deliberately challenges the player, exposing the enemy's main force, not their skills and techniques, but their number.

As the gameplay progresses, the number of mobs will increase significantly, and some rooms will be filled with them. This feature was also taken from AD&D. In line with the combat system; Diablo offers many ways to exterminate hordes of evil. In addition to a wide variety of weapons of various attack ranges, each class also has AOE attacks. Despite the graphics, every battle in the game looks bright and spectacular.
