Digimon Masters Online takes its inspiration from the famous Japanese franchise Digimon. Digimons are creatures which inhabit a virtual world created by humans and their communication networks. Some people become Masters and raise their Digimons to go on thrilling adventures and battle evil villains to preserve peace in both real and virtual worlds. The playable reality is located in the primary host computer, and artificial intelligence controls the environment and also provides the mythical creatures with unique talents and communication methods. Digimons grow through multiple stages to become more powerful.

In Digimon Masters Online, the players start their journey by creating a new character, and they can choose one of the premade heroes. There are only a few available archetypes; however, you can purchase more from the in-game shop with real money. These characters can be familiar for the fans of the universe, and they mostly represent various heroes from the show. After choosing the hero, the players get to choose their first Digimon, and they can select one of a few available at the beginning of the game. Each one has unique attributes and elemental powers, and that allows them to perform differently in combat. You can also name your first Digimon and enter the world of the game.

The Digimon MMO features the combat system based on Rock Paper Scissors system, but it is much more complex, and it has five unique Digimon attributes and eleven elementary schools. All of them are strong against a few others and weak to the rest, and neutral Digimons are weaker than elemental ones. For example, Fire is more robust than Ice. Still, it is much more vulnerable against Water, and it is challenging to defeat countering opponents because it requires you to have much more attributes than the opponents.

Digimon Masters Online provides the players with the large open world, and the game uses a point-and-click movement system to allow them to explore multiple locations freely. The battles happen in real-time, and there are a lot of areas with quest hubs that offer different types of objectives for the players to earn experience and additional rewards. You may have to kill multiple creatures and collect valuable items and deliver them back to the NPC, and some activities also include these mechanics.

This game allows the players to develop their characters by earning experience points and increasing various attributes of their Digimons. Masters can also use numerous consumables to affect the health, mana and characteristics of their pets to allow them to be more efficient in battles. Digimon can evolve, and there are multiple forms of them, which you can unlock by increasing the level of the character.

Digimon Masters Online fit both casual and hardcore players because of the massive open world and the wide variety of available in-game activities. Some quests are simple, and other activities may require you to gather a group of experienced players to proceed. The game also includes a few informal activities, such as exploring and collecting rare Digimons in different parts of the world. Hardcore gamers can enjoy various PvP activities against the best players on the server.
