Dofus Gameplay

Initially, it was released only in France but later was localized for many other countries. There are more than 10 million players around the world, but it is most prevalent in France. It's also a prequel of another turn-based RPG Wakfu.

Dofus sends players into a magical, two-dimensional world of step-by-step MMORPGs with the cartoonish graphics. Isometric projection in the compartment with the vivid enhances the turn-based gameplay. It's a mixture of turn-based strategy in combat and role-playing, the graphics are isometric with candy-bright but quite attractive 2D-backgrounds and pseudo-3D models. For the step-by-step strategical battles and the high importance of team tactics, the game is often compared with chess.

The events of Dofus takes place in the "World of Twelve", named after the existing 12 deities; there also the dimensions created by these deities. The game world is inhabited by 12 races, which lead among themselves the most fierce struggle. Earlier in the world, there were six dragon eggs, but they were mysteriously stolen. The disappearance of valuable artefacts led to disaster: the world plunged into the abyss of strife and chaos. The main quest of the protagonist was to go in search of eggs and return peace and prosperity to these lands.

Dofus contains hundreds of stories and NPCs filled with wordplay, references to movies and literature. The system of quests is highly sophisticated, including a storyline confrontation between Light Bonta and Dark Brakmar; daily bonus events; Treasure Hunting; built-in reference monsters, missions, and challenges.

The combat system features Coliseum arena, a lot of spells and monsters, combat pets, escort NPCs and many others. The game allows to create the strategy before combat and predict the actions of the opponent, which is 50% of a victorious battle. And matches in Dofus can be quite massive. A group can include up to eight people. The balance of classes (races) is interestingly solved. There are quite a few combat modes: in addition to the classic "arena" mode, there are real battles for the regions, guild wars and even large-scale clashes of opposing factions.

You can ride animals and use them in combat, dozens of craft resources with emphasis on the production of necessary equipment and weapons; a system of direct ("shop") and indirect (through NPC traders, with market pricing) exchange between players. You can purchase real estate in cities and decorate the house. Moreover, it's possible to join a guild grouping which provides multichannel chat and enhanced gameplay features. Dofus has animated emotions and gestures, which allows communication with other players.

Craft in the game implemented at the highest level. The number of professions exceeds two dozen, and most of them specialize in the creation of ammunition of one kind or another, which can then be sold at the local market for an excellent profit. The grindy and tedious process of collecting is minimized and represented by a minimal number of professions.

As with most MMORPGs, players receive levels for their experience. Experience can be gained by destroying monsters or performing quests. Many players team up in the guild to communicate and play together. Over time, the character also gains the ability to learn new spells and wear more durable armour. You can develop to level 200. Also, over time, the hero will be able to learn a profession and gain specialization.

In Dofus, characters have a unique energy called movement points. The battlefield is divided into cells, and each player's move is limited in time. In close combat, you can attack the enemy by being one cell away from them. If you lose the battle, you lose a few energy points, which is restored over time; if you lose the energy points, you turn into a spirit and must find a phoenix that can resurrect you.
