Dual Universe Gameplay
The backstory of Dual Universe began in 2027 when humanity discovered a neutron star on a collision course to the Solar System. Earth inhabitants had a bit over five hundred years to flee the planet. Several Arkships left to wander Space carrying millions of passengers in cryosleep until they found an Earth-like planet Alioth. The game begins for the player when the Arkship lands there.
The beginning of the game puts you in a safe area, which is a few kilometres around the Arkship. In this zone, no one can harm each other, and players can freely explore crafting and other mechanics. The tutorial offers help with the basics and other aspects of the world.
However, the game is not focused only on one planet. Novaquark allows us to go to Space to explore further in the depth of the Universe, and the game offers virtually unlimited procedurally generated worlds. Unreal Engine 2 keeps it on one server, which means that there are no additional loading screens, and it all is "single continuous, undivided Universe".
Players can not only explore planets and Space objects, but they can also terraform and dig into them to acquire various resources and fuel. You can use it for building villages or military bases, or you can even construct a whole country on the shelf of a planet, which could consist of multiple megapolises and a complete transportation system between them.
Another way to use resources is to build a great variety of mechanisms and spaceships. The developers do not want to limit the imagination of their players; therefore, only engines, fuel tanks and a few other parts have fixed forms and sizes; all the rest can become absolutely anything. You can also make blueprints of those to sell them to other players, so they will only need resources to rebuild your inventions.
Apart from the physical sandbox, the game encourages players to take control of economic and political development of the server, which means that the market economy is in charge of the exchange of harvested goods. You can manage logistics, marketing and other aspects of the business. Dual Universe has no AI-controlled creatures or NPCs, so it is up to the players to create and control all the activities in the Universe.
A group of people can establish an organization, which would be similar to a real-life company. The leader can hire other people to give them orders and tasks, the organization will support and pay its employees, and it can affect the game experience for a massive number of other players.
Dual Universe allows to take on and specialize in different tasks that might be valuable, such as mining, building, piracy or any other new roles that will emerge naturally during the game cycle.
For example, you can use the Lua programming language to develop your custom navigation or weapon systems, AI for use in constructions and other autonomous features. Players can also exchange and sell their software to others, improving the Universe further.
Director of the Dual Universe project once said: "We don't create the content; players do". And this is the purpose of this game. It gives you an infinite number of tools and resources, borderless world and an ability to create pretty much anything. This sandbox MMORPG suits people who enjoy exploration, war, building, science, politics or all of these together. There is something to do for everyone.
