Dungeon Lords Gameplay

Dungeon Lords is a classic, fantasy-themed third-person RPG developed by Heuristic Park and published by DreamCatcher Interactive. The release took place in May 2005.

According to the plot, the player will feel himself in the role of the Great Champion, who was destined to appear according to the prophecy at the moment when humanity will wage an unequal battle with the forces of darkness. The great wizard Galdrin of the Meadows was defeated by a deadly conspiracy in the Circle of Mages. His main ally, Lord Davenmore, is now struggling to save his kingdom from the dark forces of a conspiracy and attack from Lord Barrowgrim's marauding army. At this moment, the adventure of the protagonist begins.

The gameplay of Dungeon Lords is classic for an old-school RPG with a third-person view. The player will have to explore the world, complete story and side quests, and fight against various creatures.

Combat system

One of the main features of Dungeon Lords is the combat system implemented in it. The attacks are controlled directly by the player. The action of attack and block is performed using LMB and RMB, respectively, however, the direction of the blows can be set by moving the mouse in the desired direction. This makes the game a lot like Mount & Blade. In addition to standard attacks, with the development of weapon skills, the player will open up new combos, as well as unique opportunities, such as the ability to fight with two swords. Each weapon has its combo and combat mechanics.

RPG system in Dungeon Lords

By completing tasks in Dungeon Lords, as well as defeating various opponents, the hero will gradually gain experience. Experience is spent on the development of various skills and abilities. Also, with the accumulation of a certain amount of experience, the player moves to a new level.

Dungeon Lords RPG System
Unlike most RPGs, the distribution of experience points here is possible not only upon gaining a new level, but also directly during the game.

This gives the character levelling system a high degree of variability and flexibility. A notable feature of the role-playing system is that there is no rigid division into classes in the game. By starting Dungeon Lords as a warrior, the player can subsequently learn the profession of a magician or a thief. At the same time, there are a lot of professions in the game, and their study is encouraged by the discovery of new skills.

Opponents and bosses

On the way of the main character, there will be many different NPCs, including hostile ones.

Dungeon Lords opponents
In addition to the classic representatives of the fauna, such as wolves, the player will have to fight with unique fantasy opponents, such as harpies, giant spiders, demons, goblins etc.

In addition to the usual opponents, the game also contains bosses, to defeat which the player will need good equipment, as well as a strategy. It is worth noting that defeating such opponents always brings the hero a good amount of experience, as well as valuable loot.

Storyline and side quests

Even though the storyline of Dungeon Lords largely converges with other classics of this genre, such as Gothic, the player will face many interesting twists and turns during the passage. In addition to the main quests, the player can perform side quests in order to gain additional experience and rewards, as well as get to know the game world and its history better.

Dungeon Lords is one of the best representatives of the classic 3rd-person RPGs, which will appeal to all fans of the old school. The game is also recommended for fans of games like Gothic and The Elder Scrolls.
