Egress Gameplay

Egress is a brand new project, featuring the multiplayer arena where players can participate in different combat competitions. The game was developed and released by Russian Fazan Studio, an author of popular horror «Beastiarium». It was released in late October of 2019.
The events of the game take place on the island called Insmut. The game offers an opportunity to involve in a fierce battle with the usual adventurers, and with the nightmarish mercenaries, obsessed by a sea monster. Each of them have different goals and motivation, so you’ll have to choose a side and decide on the fate of this city, corrupted by the mysterious influence of the ancient gods.

The gameplay of Egress is based on endless combat in the mystical Lovecraftian world. You can choose one of the playable characters out of a wide range of heroes; each of them has completely different abilities and gameplay style. After that, you will have to decide on the side of the conflict you want to support, and then the game will begin.

The maps are highly detailed and unbelievably picturesque. Each location has several layers, with many hidden secret passages and secluded places; you will spend a lot of time exploring the secrets of each map. The visual style of the Egress is inspired by electro-punk and dystopia. The city is gloomy and dark, lighter only by rare street lights, neon signs and lights of the house windows. The atmosphere of the devastating dying town is perfectly recreated from the classic horror books written by Lovecraft; the atmosphere gets more deeply with the perfect content filling of the locations and depressive but fantastic soundtrack.

The combat system of the Egress is one of the reasons for the popularity of that project. The developers have meticulously recreated the battle mechanics of the souls-like games, so it’s almost identical to any AAA project of this genre. This system features the stun-locks, the rolling, attack animation timings and many other specific features. Moreover, the chests with the consumables and amplifiers, which helps during the battle, are placed on different areas of the map. Another unique feature is a combo counter, which fills up every time you hit the enemy successfully. When it activates, your character can perform a super-attack with increased damage level, which allows you almost to kill the enemy with one hit. Also, there is no need to play the whole match with a single character: you can change it after death. Egress has several game modes, such as classic ‘capture the flag’ competition, or control point. The developers are also planning to add the battle royale mode.

Each of the playable characters has a unique set of abilities and gameplay role. For example, different heroes can breathe underwater, activate the resistance to any type of the damage, or strike the enemies with the auto-attacking magical spheres. Even though the game has a considerable class variety, it’s still well balanced, so the victory depends more on the skills of the players then on the chosen heroes.

Egress is an indie project, which is in beta test at the moment, but it’s actively supported and developed by the creators. This game is perfect for those who prefer PvP and especially Souls fans.
