ELEX Gameplay
The story unfolds on a planet called Magalan — the world where human civilization nearly died out after a collision with a giant comet. However, after this terrifying event, the survivors found a mysterious substance and named it Elex. This material affects the world in a way three video game genres merge in a unique and extraordinary setting, in which four factions approach the resource and compete with each other:
Berserkers of Edan live in harmony with nature and despise the presence of foreign material. They look like a bunch of druidic Vikings and only accept natural resources and powers.
- Clerics of Ignadon find themselves in volcanic fortresses where they praise the technology, and they surround everything with drones and mechanical suits. Elex is a primary fuel for their armour and plasma guns.
- The Outlaws populate the deserts and fight between each other and everyone else for scraps, and they only use the valuable resource to inject themselves with it.
- The Albs represent the most progressive faction, and they use Elex in most processes of their lives, which makes them the most unstoppable civilization of psychopaths. At the beginning of the plot, the player character nearly dies to wake up without any valuable items in the wild.
The players may wander the open world freely without any limitations at all. In Elex, you can encounter different characters in different locations and complete many quests, in which there are multiple choices available. Your decisions impact various places and people, and you may often witness the outcome of your earlier actions in a later stage of the game.
The main storyline does not restrict you from engaging in any other activities, and you can continue at any time. Elex allows you to explore high-level locations without appropriate equipment, and each point of the map is accessible by using a jetpack. This item enables you to fly and move vertically to any spot in the world.
Elex offers the players to develop their characters and come up with a unique playstyle. There are five main attributes available, which are as follows:
- Strength increases your overall damage output.
- Constitution increases your health pool.
- Dexterity increases the range of your attacks.
- Intelligence increases your mana pool.
- Cunning affects how you can interact with other characters.
Based on these characteristics, you can search for different equipment types and obtain different abilities to use in combat. You can receive these mostly from interaction with one of the factions. Therefore, it is crucial to complete quests and increase your reputation with at least one of them. However, most of the gear requires specific attributes, limiting the players from using all the items in the game at once. You need to carefully choose where to invest your points to equip the best weapons that fit your character.
The combat of Elex is challenging, and the players need to manage their stamina, consider the range, and select appropriate tools to defeat the opponents. You can also learn unique combos and tricks for each weapon type. The game features four difficulty levels to satisfy both casual and hardcore gamers. The bright and diverse world infused by decent-quality graphics, along with numerous quest chains and memorable characters, provides an immersive experience to all kinds of players.
