Gameplay of Exanima

Exanima is a top-down 3D isometric RPG in the style of dark fantasy. The project is being worked on by the Bare Mettle Entertainment studio under their own publishing house.

At the moment, the plot revolves around an unnamed hero who suddenly finds himself in a strange room in torn clothes and with a torch lying nearby. The main goal will be research and attempts to find out what is happening in the mysterious dungeon. Soon the hero will have to face a dangerous undead hunting all living beings, including the main character.

The gameplay consists of classic isometric RPG elements and mechanics inherent in all diabloids. Without a specific goal, the main character will explore a multi-level dungeon, trying to advance to the next floors, while improving and finding new equipment.

Combat system

The main advantage of Exanima is its unique combat system, completely tied to physics. The mechanics of attack and defence with dodges are so unusual that from the very first minutes they can captivate the player. The point is in their realistic model of physical interaction, which literally applies to everything. Physics is everywhere and it works differently everywhere. So, for example, objects surrounding the player, such as boxes, barrels and others, break from impact. They are also capable of interfering with a strike if, at the time of the swing, the weapon collides with any element of the environment, etc. Every hit, block and dodge are dynamic and subject to physics. It will take a long time for the player to get used to the combat system and be able not only to strike an effective blow at the enemy but also to withstand the battle and emerge victorious from it.

Exanima Combat system
For a more comfortable adaptation to the battles in Exanima, the developers have created a special arena where the player can practice all the points listed above.

AI and opponents

It is worth mentioning the well-developed opponents and their AI. They also apply to all the rules of physics during the battle, for this reason, they try to keep the distance with the player all the time, as well as choose a position in which they can strike freely. Speaking of behaviour outside the battle, the NPC can simply wander around the location, follow the player, immediately run only with only one rustle from his side, trying to overtake him, etc. Also, the enemy can start running away if he realizes that he does not cope or he will see a more serious opponent than the player.

Exanima AI and opponents
An interesting feature is a fact that if the player allowed the wounded enemy to escape, then, most likely, he will not come alone, but with a friend.

All these features, as well as the variety of opponents themselves, make the journey through the dungeon unpredictable and dangerous, but at the same time, no less exciting.

RPG elements

Exanima has some RPG elements that make it much easier for the player to survive in the dungeon. In particular, this is the extraction of loot from defeated opponents and in treasuries, as well as improving the skills of the hero. If the first works on the principle of all games of this genre, then the second is made specially. The peculiarity lies in the skill development model. Progress is concerning the possession of one or another element of the weapon, and the player can contribute to this progress directly by using that very weapon. For example, by wielding a club and a sword, soon, the player will be able to better control the blows and blocks, and the hero will no longer feel insecure when using them.

Exanima is one of the unique isometric RPG projects that has incorporated everything you need from this genre, and also perfectly implemented its main features. The game will suit all fans of this genre, as well as titles such as Kenshi and Malus.
