Fallout 76 Review

Fallout 76 is a post-apocalyptic buy-to-play MMORPG made by Bethesda. The game takes place in the same post-apocalyptic world as the main series with many of the same enemies, lore; and items. The game has a unique style of gameplay that allows you to explore multiple paths at once instead of being stuck playing one set class. The game debuted in late 2018 on both PC and gaming consoles.
Gameplay
Fallout 76 takes place in a post-nuclear version of West Virginia. The player character is one of the first humans to leave the protective vault that has been housing them for years. Once you exit your vault, you find that the earth you have been taught about is radically different and the overseer of your vault has left you a trail of clues you must follow to find them.
The game doesn’t assign you classes and instead gives you a card based skill tree to work with. By assigning points to the different parts of the skill tree, you can create the character type you genuinely want to play as. You can equip and unequip perk cards to change your build or focus more on a different kind of combat. Each time you level up, you can choose an overall stat to points into and will be able to choose a new perk card to use. The combat is styled after the core Fallout series to allow real-time action. Experience can be gathered in this game by both completing quests, finding new areas, building, and combat. The game uses both gunplay and melee weapons for battling enemies. There are a plethora of weapons scattered around the map to loot and use.
The world is devoid of NPC character minus a few robots that are placed around the map to sell your goods. All quests are given through notes and computer logs that are scattered around the map. There are voice logs you can listen to that help provide more lore to the world. The main quest will naturally take you throughout the different areas of West Virginia appropriate for your level. There are many classics real-world areas featured in which players can explore like the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant.
The game has a heavy focus on multiplayer. You can easily team up with any player you encounter in the map, and the game perfectly scales to your party size. There is PvP available that can be activated by attacking a player and then returning fire. The game recently added in a PvP survival mode, and raids are set to be added to the game later on. The second expansion releases in summer 2019 and is titled, Nuclear Winter.
Fallout 76 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The graphics will need a decent computer to run them and are close to games in the 360/PS3 era of gaming. The soundtrack uses several songs from the core games as well as some a new score explicitly made for this title. The music is created using orchestras to give the game a massive feel.
Who is This For?
Fallout 76 is a very action heavy MMORPG that features solid gunplay. Fallout is an excellent MMO for anyone who gets bored quickly of the classic sword and magic type combat system. The game is easily accessible for even those new to gaming. The lore of the story helps expand upon the Fallout franchise and is a great companion to the mainline games.
