Grim Dawn Gameplay
Grim Dawn gameplay is concentrated on the process of beating monsters and development of the character. The developers are emphasizing the ideological and gameplay similarities with Titan Quest, which hugely influences the role-playing system. During the character creation, you can choose the class, gender and appearance of your hero. You will also be able to customize the additional specializations.
The abilities and skills of the same class are very different. In conjunction with other specializations, all it opens up a vast space for research and experiments to create a unique build of the character. There's also no class limit on wearing different outfits; your hero should have enough strength, agility or magic points to wear different pieces of armour.
The crafting and blacksmithing, as well as the ability to improve items with different characteristics, allow customizing all features. It's allowed to redistribute the skill points of already studied abilities, but it requires additional resources.
Also, the developers have introduced a system of factions. The more quests you do for the members of the group, the more opportunities you will receive. You can gain access to unique equipment, new quests, exclusive bounty hunting tasks and so on. Your enemies also have a reputation rate, but it works in the opposite direction: the more you kill them, the angrier they become. After a while, they will start to hunt on you with the most aggressive creatures, including the mighty Nemesis. The game also has a multiplayer mode, which allows cutting monsters together with friends.
The action of Grim Dawn unfolds in the dark universe of Cairn. Humanity is at the centre of a conflict between two other races: the Aetherials seek to enslave human bodies, and the demons of Ch'thonics are trying to destroy the human race before Aetherials conquer them. The empire of people is ruined, humanity is on the verge of destruction, and few survivors hide in enclaves and shelters scattered around the world. Some people who faced with the invaders not only survived, but also acquired new unique abilities. It frightens many people, but it's the last hope of the humankind.
The development of the world depends on you too. You can participate in the lives of NPCs, change the environment. Still, you're not forced to complete every quest from the strangers: only the main storyline is necessary to be completed. However, if you want to develop your character faster than usual, you should find and complete all missions. The reputation gives access to missions with good rewards and opens up new items from the traders.
Grim Dawn Mods
Almost all modifications to Grim Dawn are installed by replacing files or adding them to different folders with the game. Instructions on how to place each mod are individual, all of them are listed on the description pages.
GD STASH — one of the most popular mods for Grim Dawn. It's a character build calculator, which uses the information from the GD database about all the items in the game, as well as separately - about the collected by you. Adjust the characteristics of the spell, expand the possibilities of craft, transfer the items to the storage, and distribute them among the heroes.
GRIM LEGION — a huge modification, which reworks the basic mechanics of the gameplay. The maximum level is raised to 100; you can also add up to 60 points to the passive perk system. In addition, the mod increases the range of the Auras, optimizes the damage and progression, allows you to buy the expansion for inventory from vendors, and changes the talents of the game classes. The balance of power in the game was also reworked; however, it doesn't give an advantage to players.
SMASH N GRAB — a modification which improves the drop rates of epic and legendary items, gives more skills per level, reduces the amount of experience needed to grow the character and his reputation, makes сraft cheaper, expands inventory.
Grim Dawn Multiplayer
The network game was added to the game in the B20 update, and it uses Steamworks for hosting. In cooperative mode, a player can play together with three other players. Grim Dawn supports both online multiplayer and LAN-coop, which allows finding the opponents online.
In multiplayer, players execute orders and communicate with the NPS separately, so each player must perform quests independently. However, the game allows players to make different choices which cause consequences. It may cause in-game, so you will have to consider the actions of your opponent.
It's officially possible to complete the whole story campaign in cooperative mode. Most likely, the only trouble that you will meet is an issue with the faction choice.
Grim Dawn Factions
Grim Dawn has a Faction system which allows the player to take advantage of the reputation gained with various Cairn NPC groups. Players can help a faction by killing their enemies or by executing quests issued by different NPCs of that faction.
However, the player will not start earning the reputation of a faction until after completing their quest. Once the players have received enough Reputation Points, they will begin to unlock unique rewards such as discounts from sellers, access to previously inaccessible quests and exclusive items. Similarly, increasing the reputation of enemy factions, they will become more and more hostile, causing the appearance of more powerful monsters.
To receive rewards for completing tasks, you should open the Reward Chart. These are small quests in which a player can acquire additional rewards and reputation.
The original version of the Grim Dawn has a total of 12 factions; seven of them are friendly, and five are hostile. However, eventually, the player must choose between Death's Vigil and Kymon's Chosen, and then the rejected group becomes an enemy faction.
Grim Dawn Crafting
The Grim Dawn system allows you to create powerful equipment, components and consumables. Drawings containing recipes for creating items can be obtained from killed enemies, dropped from chests, or received as a reward for a completed task and then added to the blacksmith's assortment. Also, initially, the blacksmith has recipes for creating a random object of rare quality (some blacksmiths can forge items of a higher level, down to the legendary).
Blueprints and crafting recipes may require materials or rare components, and higher-level recipes may include already created low-level items as ingredients—for example, rare swords or maces. As a result, you can assemble one high-quality thing from several low-level objects.
In addition, the game has a Transmutation function. You have to place the element of undesired set in the NPC trading window, and it will automatically transform the unwanted object by itself. This option will offer you a random piece of a completely different set of suitable level (for example, an element of legendary level 94 set will become an element of another legendary level 84-94 set).
Grim Dawn Pets
Pets are allied creatures called by a character to fight against enemies. Affixes and characteristics increase the damage and characteristics of pets from "All Pets Bonuses", and the essential attributes (health, energy, etc.) are scaled to the character's level.
Pets can be derived from skill, constellation or object skills, and may exist permanently or have a limited lifespan. Some pets may be given direct commands, such as attacking a specific target or moving into a particular area. The pets also have a state of health, which is shown on the top left of the screen. You can choose normal, aggressive or defensive behaviour, depending on which the creature will perform different functions in combat.
Grim Dawn Classes
Grim Dawn is an ARPG with the dark atmosphere, and the dual-class skill system makes it even more unique, which allows you to use dozens of possible skills and classes. You can create a pure role (by focusing on the development and completely updating specific abilities). Still, it's more interesting to try to make a dual-class that works by combining the different skills.
Arcanist — one of the best classes for pure development. It is a master of mysterious Ether Magic. They use force to enchant weapons and complete direct attacks.
Soldier — Soldiers succeed in possessing close combat weapons and shields, but most of their skills do not require weapons at all.
Demolitionist — the heroes who fight from a distance using powerful explosives. None of Demolitionist's skills depends on weapons so that you can battle with both close combat and long-range weapons.
Occultist — Masters of supernatural powers that destroy their enemies with curses and forbidden magic. They can summon powerful creatures to help themselves in battle.
Nightblade — killers and deadly close combat fighters. The Nightblade can use illusions that can cause real physical harm.
Shaman — fighters who combine the forces of thunderstorms with
Inquisitor — Inquisitors were responsible for investigating and eliminating any supernatural threats to the Empire.
Necromancer — Necromancers rely on the call of skeletons and the suction of life force from enemies, but also do not bother to break into battle with cold weapons in their hands.
Oathkeeper — Keepers destroy enemies with both shields and weapons. They are the living embodiment of God's punishment.
