The setting of Heat features the wild west environment of America in the nineteenth century, and it gives the players various paths to survive in the wilderness. The sandbox gameplay of the game offers a wide range of activities for different types of players, as well as more than one game mode.

The character customization of the game offers to create a unique avatar using a built-in editor. You can choose skin colour, height, the shape of facial features, hairstyle and voice tone.

The game is divided into single-player and multiplayer segments. The first one is named Homestead, and it features a simple storyline where your Grandpa leaves you a farm, and you have to nurture it back to life completing various quests. You build and improve the environment every day, and every night your character goes to sleep to save the game. There are over than ten different scenarios which encourage you to start the game with different conditions and starting equipment.

The multiplayer mode is called Heat, and it allows up to forty players to survive on the same map. You build a house, raise a family or climb the career ladder to become a Sheriff, a Governor or the President of the United States. Being an outlaw is also an option, and you can raid other players’ houses and steal various goods.

Heat features a vast map with over twenty unique biomes, and players can clear the land to create dense forest floors or other landscapes. The diverse environment includes tropical seashores, deserts and cold mountainous peaks, and next-generation graphics allow to witness it all in its full glory.

Farming is a significant aspect of developing your Household, and you can craft various tools, such as watering can, sprinklers, scythe and others. Each device has a few quality tiers, and there are different crops that you can plant; it is also essential to use the right fertilizers to get the best results. You can harvest matured crops and use it for cooking a wide range of food, and you can also sell both food and vegetables at markets to obtain the in-game currency. The world is populated with American wildlife, and you can hunt or tame these animals. They all provide different benefits, such as riding horses or milking cows.

Building in Heat is designed in the form of a sophisticated system: it includes various materials and methods to improve the depth of customization for the players. You can start with a small rustic cabin and turn it into a massive fortress or a giant mansion. It is possible to create and move walls, floors, doors, windows and furniture, and it requires various stations, such as sawmills, tanneries or smelters. Players can buy blueprints to get access to higher tier tools or fortified structures, and it also allows to set up various fortifications to the buildings.

Player-versus-player part of the game features many ways to interact with other players. Some gamers may be friendly, and you can form an alliance or work together to achieve specific goals; however, others may be hostile outlaws, and you have to deal with them. Heat features a wide range of available weapons, such as guns, melee weapons and bombs. It is allowed to capture others and take them to interrogation dungeons for whatever reason you may have.
