Heroes of Hammerwatch Gameplay
The action game takes place in the same universe as the original Hammerwatch game. As in the previous part, players still have to fight against crowds of enemies, solve complex puzzles and bypass traps to find well-hidden loot. The difference from the first Hammerwatch is that now the player appears each time in the same city, which you can improve to develop the hero. The character can connect to the sessions of friends with all progress is kept.
Heroes of Hammerwatch is a typical roguelike with several classic features. The game is built on a simple scheme: you enter a dungeon, gather resources and experience, and sooner or later, your hero dies. After that, the character is reborn in a city where you can improve some shopping facilities, discover new skills and develop the equipment. After that, you can go on a journey again.
The feature is that when the character dies, you lose only the items gathered during the journey as well as resources and part of the gained experience. There are two types of precious resources: the most common gold and ore, which is used to improve the buildings in the town. You can save them by sending them up on a special elevator, which can be found on almost every level. All the improvements acquired by players remain even after death.
The second feature of the Heroes of Hammerwatch is that the starting town is the same for all created characters. As in all classic RPGs, the game has several classes like Paladin, Archer, Magician. There are also a couple of unlockable roles which can be opened with achievements. Each of them has a set of active and passive skills which open different tactic of combat.
Having a few characters in stock allows sending the fighters in regular raids. You can also invest the acquired resources in the blacksmith to improve the equipment and unlock the new skills. In general, all upgradeable skills require many resources and time to open them all.
Hack and Slash gameplay style mean that almost every second of the raid in the dungeon you will be attacked by dozens of different monsters. Depending on the location, their behaviour, and the arsenal of attacking skills will vary. The bosses are also present at the end of each theme area. With proper experience, they are not difficult to fight, but it may be challenging to learn all strategies.
