Lineage 2 Essence is a reworked version of famous old-school MMORPG Lineage 2 with a focus on PvP combat.
Lineage 2 Essence is one of the most famous and most played Korean video games. Unlike the original project, the gameplay of LA2 Essence is oriented on the opposite kind of experience: all of the core aspects are reworked and simplified to be replaced with additional mechanics. For example, the combat system shifted focus fundamentally: while classic Lineage is concentrated on long and complicated PvE gameplay with tons of grind, Essence offers dynamic unlimited PvP, convenient auto functions, and many additional competitions. Moreover, it has a pet system, reworked boss system and updated graphics.
Since the new version of Lineage is designed to involve new players and bring back the old fans, it has simplified character development and fast-paced gameplay. Essence has absorbed the fundamental aspects of the original game and removed the most annoying parts, such as awful time-consuming grind; moreover, new LA 2 received introduction questlines and self-sustaining character classes. It’s much more immersive and entertaining in comparison with the first version of the project, but it still has the same atmosphere of classic Lineage.
The first and the most noticeable aspect of Lineage 2 Essence is character development system. While the classic game requires players to spend months and years to reach the highest ranks, Essence officially allows to use auto-battle function and provides new players with well-balanced kits of the boosting consumables. Moreover, new level ranks require a decreased amount of experience points for level-up, so that you can complete the development within weeks. This aspect of the gameplay was changed to provide easy access to the new PvP battle system: now you don’t have to care about losing XP after death or penalties for player killing.
Another feature of LA 2 Essence is the solo-friendly class system. In this version, regardless of the chosen class, characters can protect themselves, buff and heal as necessary. The classic version encourages multiplayer gameplay and doesn’t imply single-player playthrough; Essence, in turn, allows to play solo until the endgame stage. Moreover, you can increase the simplicity of the gameplay by using automatic healing functions and other macros.
One of the best features of reworked Lineage 2 Essence is a pet system. The game has not only small decorative animals, but also battle beasts and mighty mounts; most of them can wear equipment, participate in combat, and buff the stats of the owner. Pets develop their skills and levels as well as a player — they consume part of the incoming experience points earned for killing enemies.
Still, Lineage 2 Essence have lost several iconic features to provide more newbie-friendly gameplay. For example, you don’t lose items after death anymore, so you don’t have to worry about your gear during PvP battles. It also has a simplified karma system: in other games of this series, you will be tagged as the killer for fighting with other players. It placed limitations and penalties on your hero: others were able to kill PK-character and plunder the loot with no restrictions. In LA 2 Essence, you will get much fewer karma points for killing, but your speed and protection stats will start to decrease with more crimes done.
The classic version of Lineage 2 had one of the most sophisticated class systems of all RPGs. Each race has unique professions, and all of them are divided into strict categories based one their combat role. Still, this version has no awakened classes; instead of that, there are several new game roles and simplifies development system.
The Tank classes are:
The tank classes are Paladin, Dark Avenger, Temple Knight and Shillien Knight. They're the only classes that can wield shields and use them in combat to protect the allies or perform specific skills.
The Damage Dealer classes are:
Archers — the damage-dealers who prefer to fight from a far distance. These heroes cause physical damage using different kinds of bows and crossbows.
Mages — the talented masters of elemental and arcane arts. It's another kind of long-ranged damage dealers, but these classes are much harder to play because their mana source regenerates quite slow.
Melee — the broadest category of fighters who wield melee weapons. These heroes can involve both in close- and mid-ranged combat.
The Support classes are:
Buffer — the kind of mages who use their spells to increase stats and improve the abilities of the allies.
Healer — the heroes who can heal an resurrect the teammates. There is only one pure healer class in the game, but it has several variations with hybrid skills.
Melee support — the powerful fighters who can heal and support allies at the same time.
The Summoner classes are:
Elemental Summoner — the class that can summon magical unicorns.
Phantom Summoner — the summoners who use their mystic powers to control the dark spirits.
Warlock — the characters who can summon cats.
