Overlord Gameplay

Overlord is a classic 3rd-person action-adventure, developed by Triumph Studios and published by Codemasters. The project combines elements of RPG and RTS.

The events of the game take place in an unknown fantasy world, where the user will have to take on the role of an awakened dark Overlord. During the game, the player will have to control the main force of the hero — hordes of gremlin-like creatures ready to fulfill any orders. With their help, the protagonist must destroy seven fallen heroes to return the subordinate territories and inhabitants, as well as artifacts that once belonged to him.

Overlord is a classic action game with a third-person view. The completion of the campaign occurs by completing the protagonist's goals and tasks in large locations, which are divided into separate levels.

Minions in Overlord

The vast majority of the gameplay is based on the control of the minions. They are the main force that allows you to complete the game levels. Minions help the protagonist deal with enemies in an easier way. In addition, they are needed to solve unique puzzles, such as clearing out the path of obstacles. The minions have their own specifics, as well as the mechanics of their control. Depending on the situation, the player needs a different number of minions, and sometimes a specific variety of them.

Overlord Minions
There are four types of minions in Overlord. They all have different pros and cons, as well as unique abilities.

The player summons minions in wells, which are found throughout the game; it consumes the life force derived from the killed enemies. At the initial levels, you can only summon five minions. During the gameplay, you will be able to increase their number to fifty. The player can also sacrifice them to restore health and mana.

Corruption system.

Overlord features a corruption mechanic. Depending on the actions of the Overlord and his decisions in the story moments, his evilness level will change. Similar mechanics were used in the Fable series. Based on the Corruption rating, the inhabitants of the world of Overlord will change their attitude toward the hero. The appearance of the character and the game's ending will also depend on this rating.

Castle Upgrade in Overlord

One of the interesting features of the game is the ability to develop your own castle.

Overlord Castle
The castle is the kind of base, where the protagonist will stay in between levels.

One of the main objectives of the hero is to return the artifacts stolen from the shelter. With their help, the hero will be able to open up new rooms and spells. The new artifacts also increase the character's OZ and OM. On top of everything, the player is able to decorate his castle with a large number of decorative items, such as banners and statues. There you can also use the services of a forge to buy or improve armor and weapons.

RPG Elements

Overlord has RPG-like mechanics, such as the ability to level up Overlord's equipment and abilities. As the strength of the protagonist grows, it will be possible to access new spells and purchase weapons and armor, which are also upgradable. This also applies to minions, because the user is able to buy additional equipment for them too.

Overlord is a classic combination of RTS and third-person action genres. The game is recommended to fans of the genres listed above, as well as fans of titles such as Two Worlds and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
