Realm of the Mad God Gameplay

Realm of the Mad God give the players control of the characters in the Realm of Oryx to become food for his minions and abominations, and the players must defeat them. The character death is permanent. However, the players can store several items in a limited capacity vault to keep them amongst all the characters. The game introduces a wide range of available classes and archetypes that can be explored by players, and they have unique abilities that can be changed using multiple in-game mechanics. The players have to experiment with different combinations of them, and more casual gamers can always enjoy simpler activities around the map. However, death is permanent for all the players, and it is one of the core mechanics of the game.

In Realm of the Mad God, the players follow a red marker at the edge of the game window to find the quest monsters. After levelling up, you may leave the Beaches and Lowlands to continue travelling through Midlands and Highlands. The most challenging area is Mountains, and it's located in the centre of the map. That location includes powerful monsters known as Gods, which are significantly mightier than the other enemies in the Realm. Therefore, they provide more experience and better items. Completing various objectives allows more powerful event bosses to spawn, and they are unique and often considered as once-per-realm bosses that can be killed to acquire higher-tier loot and open gateways to the rarest dungeons.

The gameplay of Realm of the Mad God consists of players firing projectiles and destroying enemies to earn fame, experience and pieces of gear. The characters gain full experience for completing the in-game objectives in a group. And because of this, it is generally better to party up to fight enemies. The players can instantly teleport to any other player on the map using an ability with a short cooldown. They can also use the skill to escape to the safety of the Nexus, which is a safe area where characters can't be harmed.

The players level up after acquiring a specific number of experience, and their attributes increase. That makes them being able to fight more powerful enemies and unlock more skills and classes. In addition to experience points, the players earn fame on their character, which increases the rank. If a character has an expressly high amount of fame, the hero is placed on the game's global leaderboard upon its death. This earned fame is also added to the players' overall balance and can be used to purchase specific in-game items.

A significant aspect of Realm of the Mad God is dungeon crawling. The players can loot a specific item which opens a dungeon portal or purchase it using the in-game currency. Most dungeons are randomly-generated areas, and they have multiple difficulties for both casual and hardcore players. In most cases, you can obtain various consumables from the instanced monsters to increase numerous attributes, and you can also acquire multiple pieces of equipment. Dungeon bosses also reward the players with a slight possibility of obtaining rare pieces of equipment that cannot be found anywhere else. Some of these unique items may only fit specific classes and be useful for limited in-game challenges.
