Squad Gameplay

Squad is a game based on the popular modification Project Reality for Battlefield 2 and ARMA. The overall pace is much lower than almost any similar shooter, which makes it impossible to endless running and speed manoeuvres. Gaming sessions in this shooter can involve up to 100 players on a single map; the locations consist of large areas which force players to plan the sophisticated strategies and tactics.

One of the main aspects of the game is cooperation and logistics because teams have to take care of the timely delivery of provisions and ammunition to the hot spots, and this can be achieved only through the rapid creation of the fortifications. Points are created by combat engineers, which are one of the ten available classes. At the same time, the developers emphasized the improvement of the support classes, because medics in this game can save from death the whole units of players consisting of nine people.

The shooting mechanics in Squad is very realistic. The recoil will not allow firing from 100-200 meters to the enemy, and ballistics will not allow shooting without corrections. In addition, the game has no auxiliary zoom, so aiming at any distance becomes quite difficult. The optics look incredibly realistic. Also, the game has excellent background music and sound, as well as graphic effects—smoke, explosions, flashes and fire, which look amazing in dynamics.

Teamwork is an essential thing about Squad. Lonely players won't be able to get a real feel for the game. The primary skill in the game is the ability to coordinate with other members of your squad, follow the orders of the commander, share information, and help your teammates. There are three voice chats: the one for commanders and team, and chat for all within 50 meters. It allows you to communicate and send information to different members of your squad and quickly cooperate in battle.

Since the original modification was based on Battlefield 2, the team gameplay is also based on the system used in this project. There is a commander who is responsible for the coordination of all actions. The platoons cooperate with each other and command the squads each of up to nine people, which also can be divided into up to four sub squads. Each member of the team is valuable because the players individually cannot complete all the tasks at once and defend themselves against attackers. All roles have strengths and weaknesses and require close interaction between squad members.
