Star Trek Online Gameplay
In Star Trek Online, your character's mission is to assume control over a private spaceship and explore the universe of Star Trek series. The main feature of the project is an opportunity to switch between game modes, where you can control either playable character or a spacecraft; in starship control mode you can control the ship's engineering, tactical and science systems. ST Online has a dynamic combat system, immersive roleplaying and fast-paced gameplay. Also, this project offers strategic spaceship battles as well as classic third-person shooting, which distinguishes it from other retro sci-fi games.
During the character creation, you can choose the specialization, appearance and backstory of your hero. Your captain can belong to one of the existing races of Star Trek, such as Klingon or Vulcan, and participate in different factions — Starfleet, Klingon Defense Force, Romulan Republic, TOS Starfleet, Dominion and DSC Starfleet. All of these associations have unique playable races, exclusive missions and locations. Even more, developers of the Star Trek Online often add new content packs which expand the existing universe of the game with new features: the last large content pack changed the balance of the classes and added the DSC Starfleet faction.
Playable characters in Star Trek Online are divided into playable classes that determine their starting skills. When you create a hero, you can choose a career path and individual traits — extra bonuses which add special abilities and permanent enhance. At the moment, there are three career paths available for all races: Tactical, Engineering, and Science. This aspect influences on space gameplay style and ground combat; it's almost the same as combat archetypes in usual MMORPGs. Tactical Officers are damage-dealers, Engineers are good tanks, and Science Officers are equal to buffers/debuffers.
Each player of Star Trek Online has a playable ship with unique abilities and customizable equipment, such as weapons, shields, engines and auxiliary. Moreover, starships have bridge officers: their skills can be improved and customized depending on the chosen style of the gameplay. Most of the ships available at the faction's shipyards, but since tier five you can buy advanced vehicles with unique stats.
Star Trek Online Playable Factions
Starfleet — a united federation of planets with the capital world of Earth. The most notable races in that faction are Humans, Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites.
Klingon Defense Force — the military force of the Klingon Empire. This faction accepts not only characters of the primary race, but also Gorns, Nausicaans, Ferasans, and moreover.
Romulan Republic — an alliance of Romulans and Remans. This faction can't afford to build personal fleet starbases, so they have to unite with ally fleets to receive a spaceship.
TOS Starfleet — alternative option of Starfleet storyline. This faction gathers up the characters of Human, Vulcan, Andorian, and Tellarite species.
Dominion — a significant galactic political power, which accepts only characters of Jem'Hadar race.
DSC Starfleet — an alternative storyline of the classic Starfleet faction. It has new storylines, features and spaceships. Only characters of Human, Vulcan and Alien race are allowed to join this faction.
