Terraria Stardust Cell Staff vs Stardust Dragon Staff

Terraria Stardust Cell Staff vs Stardust Dragon Staff

In Terraria, there is a vast number of magic staves, some of which are capable of summoning powerful magical creatures to the player’s side, as well as items when used. Most summon weapons to fall into one of three categories: Minions, Sentries, and Whips. Minions are mobile characters that follow the player, while sentries remain stationary. Whips are related weapons that deal summon damage without summoning any minions. This article will focus on two minion summoning staves: the Stardust Cell Staff and the Stardust Dragon Staff.

In it, you can familiarize yourself with the main parameters and characteristics of these weapons and their advantages and disadvantages in relation to each other.

Stardust cell staff

The Stardust Cell Staff is a Hardmode, post-Lunatic Cultist summon weapon. This weapon allows the player to summon the enemy Stardust Cell as his own minion. This creature is capable of conducting attacks from a distance, as well as moving to enemies out of range.

Terraria Stardust Cell Staff vs Stardust Dragon Staff
Like other minions after being summoned, Stardust Cell will constantly follow the owner and attack enemies at a distance close to the player.

In addition, the minion itself is invulnerable and immune to attacks from other creatures, and the time of its presence is unlimited. The familiar only disappears if the player dies, cancels the buff, leaves the world, or summons another creature to replace it.

Each Stardust Cell attacks the enemy with a miniature version of itself. The projectiles stick to the attacker, after which they inflict continuous damage for 30 ticks, then they disappear. Additionally, the Stardust Cell will occasionally fire an extra shot at any target the player is attacking, without interrupting their standard rate of fire, even if the Stardust Cell is already attacking that target. The weapon allows you to stack an unlimited number of shells on the enemy, making it possible to inflict up to 100 or more damage per second. The Stardust Cell Staff is one of the most effective summoning weapons against high health targets.

Since this staff is a magical summoning weapon, appropriate modifiers can be applied to it. The best of these is Ruthless.

The crafting station for the Stardust Cell Staff is the Ancient Manipulator. It takes 18 Stardust Fragments to craft the weapon itself.

The basic version of the summoned minion deals up to 60 points of damage; this also applies to the continuous damage of its projectiles. The weapon also inflicts a minor knockback. A single-use will require ten mana.

Stardust dragon staff

The Stardust Dragon Staff is a Hardmode, post-Lunatic Cultist summon weapon. It allows the player to summon a Stardust Dragon as a minion, which attacks enemies by flying through them.

The minion will constantly fly around the player (even through blocks) and attack nearby opponents. It leaves a trail of sparkles that provide periodic bursts of light as it moves. In addition, the Dragon itself is invulnerable and immune to attacks from other creatures, and the time of its presence is unlimited. It only disappears if the player dies, cancels the buff, leaves the world, or summons another creature to replace him.

The creature summoned by the Stardust Dragon Staff is the weapon itself, as it deals damage to enemies as it flies through them. Since this minion consists of segments, the damage is counted separately for each of them touching the enemy. In general, he manages to deliver ten blows per second. Besides, the hallmark of Stardust Dragon is that if summoned more than once, multiple Dragons do not spawn. Instead, the first spawned Dragon becomes longer by one segment for each additional summoning, broadening its area of attack and increasing its damage output. It is noteworthy that the minion can attack opponents even outside the screen.

Since this staff is a magical summoning weapon, appropriate modifiers can be applied to it. The best of these is Ruthless.

The basic version of Stardust Dragon Staff deals up to 40 damage per hit, i.e. each segment of the familiar’s body will deal up to 40 damage when interacting with an enemy. Also, the minion inflicts a minor knockback. A single-use will require ten mana. Thanks to the mechanics of its attack, as well as the increase in the length of the Dragon for each additional summoning, the creature’s DPS becomes enormous. With the proper equipment of the character as a summoner class, with the help of the Stardust Dragon Staff, you can easily cope with all bosses, including the Moon Lord. The weapon is also perfect for farming.

Stardust Cell Staff vs Stardust Dragon Staff in Terraria

Having learned about the basic properties and characteristics of these two types of weapons, we can compare them with each other.

First of all, you should go through their main characteristics. Both staves have identical stats (knockback, velocity, etc.), except for the damage dealt. Stardust Cell Staff has 20 damage compared to Stardust Dragon Staff. However, considering all the factors by which the overall DPS is compiled, even with this gap, the Stardust Dragon Staff is still significantly more vital than the Stardust Cell Staff. Segmented damage coupled with tremendous speed and manoeuvrability of the minion significantly outperform the Stardust Cell projectiles with their continuous damage.

Since these are two summoning staves with similar mechanics, the preferred modifier for them will also be the same. It is also worth considering that these weapons are kind of alternatives to each other, as you can guess from their identical craft. However, if Stardust Cell Staff is more suitable for single vital targets with a large amount of health, then Stardust Dragon Staff is ideal for the same and for clearing groups of opponents.

The biggest problem with the Stardust Cell Staff compared to the Stardust Dragon Staff is the inability of the first staff minion to walk through blocks and walls. This feature is a common problem, due to which you have to re-summon a minion, sometimes in the middle of a fight. In this regard, Stardust Dragon will also be the best alternative.

Summing up, I would like to say that these two weapons should be selected solely based on the preferences and play style of the player, as well as situationally. Each of them is good in its own way, but Stardust Dragon Staff, due to its DPS and attack mechanics, is more optimal.
