Ultima Online Gameplay

Ultima Online is one of the most famous roleplaying video games, which was a pioneer in the MMORPG genre. During its long history, it gained the most populous community, fueled gossips, speculations and unbelievable stories, and received the honorary title of classic old-school RPG. Back in time, this fantasy game provided incredibly ample room for creativity: all of the players had an opportunity to create a hero with a unique story, roleplay as a designed character, and influence on the game world. Since Ultima has no casual mechanics of development and pre-established strict class roles, gamers were free to do whatever they wanted — and it attracted the most creative and cunning people.

The most noticeable feature is a complex PvP system, which divides the players of Ultima into different groups. There are Blue innocent souls, Grey criminals and Red murderers. The first type is the most protected, and the last one is freely attackable. Also, there is an orange status, which shows players in guild war. Except for open PvP, Ultima has different game modes: 1x1 Arena, group Champion Spawns and House, Guild wars and Vice vs Virtue.

The game has several worlds, added with new expansions. At the moment, there are seven types of servers, which are distinguished by different rulesets. For example, almost half of the worlds discourage non-consensual PvP, while others provide arena modes and open areas for colossal battles. Also, they have different visual style and geographic features, so it might be wise to explore rule sets before character creation.

During a long time since the date of creation, Ultima Online received dozens of content packs and an incredible amount of various add-ons with new quests and history elements, so you have to explore the world by yourself to understand the plot entirely. There are different types of side-questlines, which takes dozens of hours to be fully completed, and most of all are unique and exciting. Ultima is a very time-consuming video game, which takes a lot of player’s time to provide the best immersion into the game world.

The visual style of Ultima Online is pretty standard for the time of its creation. It’s a strict angular isometric graphics, which were widespread at the middle and the end of the nineties, but it has a unique feature — it’s slightly turned, so it looks like a game with a straight top-down perspective. It has incredibly detailed pixel visual style, with the pale dead colour palette and amazingly realistic textures. Even though these graphics are already outdated, it’s still one of the core features of this project.

Ultima Online Races

At the moment, there are only three playable races in the world of Ultima. You can choose and customize any of them during the character creation; each kind has its unique features which can be changed and recoloured. Also, you can select a name (which is suitable for the setting) and basic skill build, which can be customized lately.

  • Humans — one of the most physically strong and talented races: humans are the best for hard work, and they have increased level of basic skills. Also, their health regenerates faster than others.
  • Elves — sneaky and wise creatures of magic, who live in peace with nature. Elves are the best stealth heroes; moreover, they have a unique ability, a Night Vision.
  • Gargoyle — demonically-looking creatures with long horns and mighty wings. They are not only unique creatures who can fly but also amazing artisans.
