Villagers and Heroes Gameplay

Villagers and Heroes is a free-to-play MMORPG developed and published by Mad Otter Games. This game is a classic third-person MMORPG where the player controls a unique character. The gameplay of Villagers and Heroes focuses on completing the story and side quests while exploring the world. In this game, players can engage in various types of gathering and crafting and build their village. A positive quality of the game is the player's motivation to interact with other users. The key to success is cooperative gameplay. Unity is the only way to defeat bosses, complete events and build a substantial settlement.

The game has in-depth and unique lore, which is presented during the main series of quests and independent exploration of the world. Even the player's custom character has a unique backstory based on their personality. The user's experience will depend on the customization options selected in the character creation menu.

The storyline of Villagers and Heroes started at the beginning of existence when endless lands were empty, and their inhabitants lived scattered all around the world.

The tragic fate of the world begins with the story of Mallok, an unknown poor wanderer who has sought refuge for himself. He wandered around the world, asking to take him to the unique tribes, who were masters of various skills. Unfortunately for Mallok, he was rejected from everywhere. However, his excellent theft skills allowed him to take possession of powerful artefacts that bestowed incredible powers on their owner. All goodness has died out in him. Offended at this world and its inhabitants, he unleashes all his anger on everything around. Later on, the world was swallowed up by darkness and filth.

The storyline continued, when the leaders of the four tribes Celestia, Marat, Calypso, and Voltan, who once lived in disunity, decided to unite and defeat Mallok, and at the same time restore beauty and harmony to the world. The four stood together as one. Determined, they engaged in mortal combat with Mallok and his army. The battle lasted several days: the heroes managed to defeat Mallok's monstrosities, but the battle with him was much more difficult. At the cost of their lives, the leaders were able to defeat him and exile him for years to come. At the same instant, everything around began to revive, and the bright sun has risen again.

Their bodies were buried together in the valley, where they fell in a valiant battle for peace. However, the darkness could not be wholly overcome; the evil began to gain strength to enslave the world once again.
The player's character is a wanderer who is destined to repeat the feat of the four leaders and once again fight back the evil that has come.

How the world of Villagers and Heroes works and who lives in it?

The world of Villagers and Heroes is vast and varied. The lands in this game are divided into biomes with unique flora and local inhabitants. The zones in Villagers and Heroes are well designed and detailed, and the whole world is filled, cosy and atmospheric enough to explore and walk through it. Each region contains a large number of locations. The player will be able to visit each of them, however, upon reaching a certain level of the character. All users should be careful because not all inhabitants will be friendly towards them.

List of significant world zones:

  • Ardent
  • Stormhold
  • Greenhaven
  • Sunkentooth
  • Thorncrest
  • Halcyon
  • Glittermore

The game world is filled with various creatures, who were enslaved by evil according to the lore. Each biome has unique inhabitants. They differ in appearance, in attack range, number of skills and strength. Besides, these enemies are one of the primary sources of experience for the character. Interaction with them takes place through combat.

Villagers and Heroes have a unique combat system which shows the hostile creatures players. The game displays the danger of an enemy through the colour of the enemy. Red indicates a difference of 5 levels, white means that the enemy poses no threat, and their level is lower than the player's. If the creature exceeds the user by six levels or more, then its name will not be shown.

Village system in Villagers and Heroes

The main feature of Villagers and Heroes is the village system, which allows the player to acquire ownership of his house and land. The villages themselves are analogous to guilds, but they have specific differences.
Firstly, an imitation of a village with its mayor and rules. A player who settled in a particular village must pay tax and take into account the opinion of the head of the valley. Secondly, by receiving a plot, the player opens up new game functions, such as gardening and ranching. Thirdly, membership in a village instantly gives the character permanent passive bonuses.

The gameplay for the mayor is also interestingly implemented. The most basic functions are to give the village a name and slogan. Besides, upon reaching a certain rank, the mayor gains access to the village treasury for the development of the settlement. As mayor, the player will also be responsible for developing business relationships with the heads of other villages.

Villagers and Heroes also implemented an electoral system, where villagers cast anonymous votes on running for mayor. Elections take place at regular intervals.

Bosses in Villagers and Heroes are legendary creatures with unique looks and strength. They are much more dangerous than ordinary enemies, so it is not recommended to attack them alone. Also, each of them has its fighting style, so the player will need to study the boss and come up with a strategy before starting the battle. Everyone should be careful with them, because bosses attack immediately, regardless of the character's level.

There are 52 bosses across all continents of the game world, excluding event bosses. You can determine whether a creature is a boss by the three purple icons next to its avatar.

Not all living things will be hostile. Many NPCs in the world willingly interact with the player. They are the leading storytellers. Through them, the player can more fully learn the history of the world in the smallest detail. Also, some of them will give hints and talk about different game features.

Basic game mechanics

The combat system in Villagers and Heroes is classic for a MMORPG game. It represents the character's auto-attack on the enemies. Each class can use an auto-attack; it's a basic form of damage that does not require mana. They represent damage dealt with by class weapons, such as a sword strike or bow shot.

Together with this, the player can use active skills in battle. Some skills are unlocked with new weapons, while others need to be opened in the skill tree. Using a skill in combat requires a certain amount of mana, as well as a short casting time.

Besides, in battle, there is the possibility of a miss, dodge, stun, or a critical strike. Some effects affect combat. There are holy, earth, physical and poisonous effects for physical attacks and fire, holy, shadow and ice - for magical. Each of the impacts has its characteristics, such as damage over time, slowing down or additional damage for a specific type of creature. There is a separate armour for each effect that blocks negative consequences.

Villagers and Heroes implements a system of achievements that the player receives during gameplay. Achievements can be associated with various activities, such as catching fish or participating in an auction. Also, achievements are given for character progression. Each achievement carries a particular reward in the form of coins or specific items. The more complicated the achievement is, the more valuable the bonus the player will receive.

Items in the game are loot and the result of gathering or crafting. Some things are consumables; others are used on an ongoing basis. There are also some restrictions on the use of items, such as class, territorial or temporary. Villagers and Heroes have a system of item rarity with six rarity levels: Inferior, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary items. The rarer a thing is, the more expensive and powerful it will be. Also, objects of high rarity have many beneficial effects.

Mounts are the fastest and best way to move around in the world of Villagers and Heroes. There are dozens of creatures of various types and speeds. Players can open the rarest of them during the time-limited events event, and others become available with the storyline progress or in-game purchase.

Crafting in Villagers and Heroes

Crafting in Villagers and Heroes is one of the main game mechanics. It allows the player to get a lot of useful things and items for the character. Also, crafting enables you to improve and enchant existing equipment.

Smithing is one of the most critical systems for creating things for shamans and warriors since the user allows the user to create a whole set of equipment for these characters independently. Also, there is a separate ability to create consumables that temporarily enhance the player. Amplifiers are the key to completing Villagers and Heroes. This craft is useful in that it allows you to avoid the grind to get a full set. The process is based on the extraction of ore in certain places, its subsequent smelting and forging. It's also necessary to have a hammer for blacksmithing.

Woodcrafting is a rewarding activity for every class as it allows you to craft class weapons for everyone. For production, you need wood and a chisel. Various items are prepared using beams obtained by processing wood.

Tailoring is an alternative to smithing for hunters, wizards and priests. It allows the production of belts, gloves, robes, etc. A beneficial skill, primarily if the character is engaged in ranching animals. The output of equipment requires a spinning wheel and spools.

Cooking in Villagers and Heroes

Cooking system in Villagers and Heroes is the top way to get consumables and boosters. This craft eliminates the need for the player to purchase potions. For cooking, the character needs a spoon, oil and specific ingredients, depending on the dish. Each meal has unique properties, such as regeneration, increasing experience etc.

Gnogmenting is one of the unique features of Villagers and Heroes. It is the process of combining things. It allows the player to combine two items of the same type and get the properties of both in one thing. Gnogmenting does not require specific skills and can be done by anyone.

Gathering system in Villagers and Heroes

The gathering system is, for the most part, related to crafting since it allows the player to obtain the resources necessary for this.

Plant lore
A skill that allows the player to engage in gathering and extraction of resources and various plants. This skill is associated with crafts such as woodcrafting and cooking. Also, some of the collected items can be used immediately to obtain any temporary effects. Some of the harvested plants can later be grown on the player's land. This skill requires a sickle to collect resources and plants.

Mining
Mining is the process related to smithing. This activity provides a variety of ores and valuables for further creation of weapons and equipment. The higher the mining skill, the more likely it is to get this or that material in one or another quantity. The process takes place in unique mines or units. For mining, the player needs to get a pickaxe.

Fishing

Fishing is one of the most relaxing gathering experiences in Villagers and Heroes. The fish caught allows the player to both prepare a variety of dishes and produce the oil needed for cooking in general. The higher the level of fishing skill, the more rare and valuable types of fish the player can catch. The fishing is accessible in special places on the map, and it requires a fishing rod.

Bug lore

Bug lore in Villagers and Heroes involves finding and capturing specific insects. In the future, the caught species can be used in particular cooking recipes, as well as in tailoring. To catch insects, the player needs to find the place of their accumulation, and also have a magnifying glass.

Villagers and Heroes Classes

The class system consists of 5 unique directions. Each class has three subclasses with a variety of skill trees depending on the preferred playstyle.

Warrior

The warrior is one of the main playable classes. He is a melee character who fights with a sword. Besides, he always has a battle horn at his disposal, which gives strength and confidence.
This class combines good resistance to physical damage and impressive attack potential.

Warriors have three subclasses - Fury, Discipline and Lightning. The first specialization turns the warrior into a berserker. Their skills are increasing damage, which makes him an excellent melee Damage Dealer. Lightning acts as a tank that can revive allies who distracts all enemies. However, the class itself is intended for team play.

Discipline is a support subclass, and its skills focus on buffing allies and himself. This class is especially useful during raids or boss events in Villagers and Heroes. Nature is a damage subclass and its skill tree bases on the additional poisoning effect of attacks.

Wizard

The wizard is one of the main game classes with a ranged attack. Possessing a robust staff and secret knowledge, he unleashes on enemies all the power of the natural elements under his control. His primary role is in causing damage to the enemy.

Wizard talents are grouped into the Fire, Arcane and Ice specializations. The subclass of fire aims at massive use of skills, as well as causing damage to groups of opponents. Arcane is a subclass that is a combination of fire and ice. Skills aim at creating damage and self-buff. Ice is a subclass that combines damage dealing and life support skills. One of the best all-round classes for playing solo and in a team.

Hunter

Hunter is one of the main playable classes in Villagers and Heroes. Protector of nature, in harmony with flora and fauna. In battle, he uses a bow and enchanted arrows. This specialization balances out damage and support.

Among the subclasses are Marksman, Survival and Nature. The first of these focuses on the support of himself and allies, and debuff enemies. The variety of effects allows the player to come up with their skill activation chains and strategy. Survival, as the name suggests, focuses on its survivability and the opponent's debuff. It is one of the strongest damage-dealing subclasses in Villagers and Heroes.

Priest

The priest is one of the playable classes, which is the primary support in the game. The priest, who combines good and evil, is fighting with a shield and a mace. Unstable to damage, he can, however, strengthen his allies, as well as weaken opponents.

The priest's three specializations are Holy, Balance, and Shadow. Holy is a subclass whose skills are aimed at regenerating and protecting allies. Very useful in boss fights and raids. Balance is a subclass that buffs itself and debuffs opponents. Suitable for both solo play and team play. Shadow is the only priest specialization targeting DD and enemy debuffs. With the correct use of skills, he can deal with any enemy quickly.

Shaman

Shaman is one of the playable classes in Villagers and Heroes. He is one with nature and her forces. With his mighty shield and axe, he overthrows any enemy, while his totems protect him and his allies. Depending on the specialization, he can play the role of a healer, a tank and a damage dealer.

The shaman's three specializations are water, wind and earth. Water is a specialization that allows the shaman, due to the strengthening skills, to inflict tremendous and stable damage to the enemy. Support skills are also present here. The wind is a subclass that combines many support skills and additional damage. Earth is a subclass whose primary role is tank-support which combines the abilities of extra protection, healing and debuffing enemies.
