Gameplay of Wolcen

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is a top-down ARPG and hack-and-slash game. The developer and publisher is WOLCEN Studio. The release took place in February 2020.

In the story, the player is one of three survivors of the Kastagat massacre. Grand Inquisitor Haymlock rescued you, and from a very early age, you connected your life with the Republican army of the Exterminators, enrolling in the military academy to become the ideal fighter against the Supernatural. Through long training sessions, you and your childhood friends, Valeria and Edrik manage to get the title of children of Haymlock.

The gameplay begins with the Brotherhood of Dawn invading the Crimson Citadel, the enigmatic fortress of the Republic. Although the motives for the attack remained unclear, the Senate of the Republic decided to retaliate against all known fortifications of the Brotherhood.

The forces of Grand Inquisitor Haymlock will soon deploy on the Shore of the Shipwreck near Stormfall to destroy the Brotherhood camp. The player, represented by the protagonist, with two childhood friends, takes part in the "Death of Dawn" operation under the leadership of Justiciar Maelis.

The gameplay is mostly classic for a game of this genre. Controlling the main character from a top view, the player moves around the world, consisting of large locations, while simultaneously performing certain tasks on them. Along with this, the player must constantly fight hordes of various opponents.

Graphics in Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem has beautiful graphics, which the developers managed to achieve thanks to Cryengine technology. The world of the game is well-developed and filled. In addition, this engine makes Wolcen a visually appealing game thanks to the high detailing not only of textures and decor but also of hand-modelled weapons and armour.

Combat mechanics

The game features a hack-and-slash system that uses a combination of attacks and dodges, as well as the use of skills.

A huge variety of different weapons and unique stances and combos make each battle truly epic and dynamic.

It is worth mentioning the combat incarnation mechanic, which allows the character to transform into one of four available celestial incarnations, each of which has four special skills and one devastating superpower.

RPG elements

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem provides the player with a huge skill tree to create their own unique fighting style. Also, an interesting feature is that there are no classes in Wolcen, only weapons determine the character's school of skills.

The player can increase the level of his skills by improving the character or alternative resources in order to receive modifier points and create unique combinations. Changing the type of damage, the ability to add new abilities, strengthen existing skills and weaken the skills of opponents, as well as completely change the mechanics of skills - the game makes it possible for all this.

Opponents

The world of Wolcen is filled with many dangerous opponents with complex behaviour mechanics that include very deadly skills. A sophisticated AI will make the player pay attention to various marks and follow the animations of enemies in order to dodge the deadly threat in time.
