More About MMORPG

A long time ago, multi-user dungeons were one of the most popular online videogames, gathering a huge audience by the standards of that time. These RPGs offered an opportunity to experience gameplay similar to classic board games, but with more casual mechanics and fantastic opportunity to share the gameplay with hundreds of other players. Just a couple of years later MMORPGs began to take their present form. The development of 3D multiplayer games changed this genre dramatically: the optimized mechanics of the ancestor games and simplified gameplay made the experience much more exciting for casual players.

The gameplay of MMORPG videogames was improved with each new projects of this genre. Many features were changed and recreated by experiments of different developers. A specific set of the most balanced mechanics is standard for most of the modern video games; still, many of them can have variations and unique details. For example, one of the core things, the system of character development, can be released in several different ways: from the classic method of levelling with XP points to a sophisticated, flexible skill-based system of builds. The combat system can be aimed at PvE or PvP; usually, it's based on cooperation, with many additional competitions and dungeons.

Roleplaying System in MMORPG

The core feature of MMORPG is roleplaying. The conception of RPG changed over the years dramatically, so nowadays it's usually released in the form of the class system, character customization and development mechanics, and much rarer it's an opportunity to create a personality for your hero and act according to its life thoughts. Some players prefer to roleplay with each other, which is much more entertaining than basic features of classic RPG model offered by developers. The easiest way to involve into roleplaying part of the videogame is to join a guild oriented on RP, explore their rules and meet with the guildmates.

Even though not every MMORPG have a complex roleplaying system, most of them provide an opportunity to choose between different activities. In almost any project players can choose to concentrate on classic RP part of the gameplay, on PvP combat or various social-based activities. For example, if the game has a well-balanced economic system, it automatically provides a wide range of activities based on that. You can concentrate on trading and resell the resources or items extracted by other players, produce items yourself and sell it to traders, or even create the trading union. The more solid mechanics released in the game, the more activities can be occupied by players.

Multiplayer System in MMORPG

Another feature of MMORPG projects it instanced dungeons, which copied personally for teams and players; these areas are separated from the usual game world, so it's easier to run the game on the PCs. Most of the competitions and raids are based on the conception of instances, and it's widespread for RPGs now. In some games, private locations can also be used for the system of player or guild housing.

Most of the MMORPGs require players to cooperate. Various activities and competitions, such as raids and challenge dungeons, can be played only in the team. Many players find the teammates for a short period, only to complete the competition together; it's usually done by 'call' in the group chat. However, it's not the best way to gather a team. It's much more entertaining to join a guild or play with your friends. First, it's easier to cooperate with familiar players, and second, most of the MMOs provide valuable benefits for groups which gathers up often, so it's also more profitable to play in a team.

All of the MMORPG projects tend to keep the attention of their audience. Most of the RPGs are getting major updates with new content, bug fixes and new mechanics. Usually, it happens a couple of years after release, when players are quite bored with the game, and the new audience doesn't know very much about the projects. Some MMORPGs extend the plot by additional content, and major ones create entirely new storylines and gameplay models. Sometimes new expansions for the online RPG are wholly independent and differ from previous content packs just as if it's a brand new game. Several game developers provide an opportunity to make player-generated content, which attracts creative players and creates dozens of new activities. It allows players to support the life of the project independently, show their skills as a creator and develop the community of the game.
