Old Browser Games

Screen from Old Browser Game

It seems unbelievable, but computer games began to gain popularity more than thirty years ago. During this time, the industry managed to fill up with many wonderful games of various genres and settings, starting with the simplest text MUDs or pixel games, and ending with first major 3D projects. Players still love many Old Browser Games, and some projects are even maintained decades since the release date. Most of the still-popular games were released in the late 90s, the golden era of video games.

More About Old Browser Games

Old browser games, as the name implies, were created a long time ago. The genre of the project usually depends on the time of the creation. The chronology of the improvement of old games is quite easy to follow: with the development of technologies and the advent of more affordable personal computers, video games have also developed. The oldest of the genres is a MUD, the Multi-User Dungeon. These games have no graphics, and all of the events are explained by text. Such games have a vast scope for the roleplaying, but the genre still is not very popular, because the gameplay is too hardcore and boring for most of the players. Still, it’s impressive that some of these games are running since the late 80s.

Most of the Old Browser Games are RPGs or strategy games. However, these genres are still one of the most popular ones. While the 90s browser games primarily belong to the genre of strategy, the 2000s games have much more RPGs and simulators. These projects have simple graphics and almost no complex visual effects because at the time of their creation, not every computer could run this. The visual style is usually released in 2D form, or pseudo-3D and isometric. Also, many games of this era have pixel graphics.

Unfortunately, most of the Old Browser Games have almost no online players. The best online number for MUD games reach five hundred to a thousand people at the same time, while in most projects this amount and several times more for more advanced games. Some games are entirely abandoned, even though they’re still maintained.
