More About Side-Scrolling MMORPG
Side-scrolling MMORPG is one of the oldest and simplest graphics styles, which belongs to the subgenre of 2D games. Still, it's used even in new projects, because it has a unique visual style which attracts the attention to the project and it's quite easy to develop. The side-scrollers loved not only by indie developers, but the major companies also release the videogames with the same graphics too, mostly because of the unique appearance. The side-scroller games provide an opportunity to create the unique graphics, from plane hand-drawn sprites to pixel-art pictures, or even 3D models, placed on the two-dimensional world. The ample space for creativity allows devs to choose almost any kind of setting, plot and gameplay, and the graphics of the project strongly affect whether it would be popular or not.
In Side-Scrolling MMORPG, you can move your hero only on two dimensions: from left to right, up and down. This system of movement makes the game looks like a cartoon or a flat picture with moving figures on it. Despite their extravagant graphics, these games can feature the same kinds of activities as three-dimensional projects; even though, the range of various mechanics can be increased, because developers can use more game conventions, which can be seen by player's eyes. While projects with modern graphics need to show almost all of the hero's actions, side-scrollers can limit only with a text description of the events, which opens new opportunities for roleplay.
